After obtaining the ISO 14001 international standards certificate in December 1997, the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, a subsidiary of the Food and Allied group has successfully completed the audit leading to the Green Globe certificate.

Based on the Agenda 21 resulting from the Rio Convention on the Environment in 1992, this program was developed by Green Globe, the environmental branch of the World Travel & Tourism Council and SGS - Switzerland (Société Générale de Surveillance/ International Certification Services).

The preparatory audit in March 99 was led by Société Madco Formation which specialises in training and the implementation of Total Quality Management throughout the Food & Allied group.

Criteria include (1) the reduction of waste generated, re-use and recycling of waste; (2) Management of water resources; (3) Management of Waste Waters; (4) an environmentally-friendly purchasing policy ; (5) a commitment in social and cultural aspects - both for the personnel and the neighbourhood and (6) the efficient management of electrical resources.

In collaboration with Société Madco Formation, a number of task forces were set up in each department of the hotel in order to identify environmental aspects and impacts of each activity undertaken by the employees.

The Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel was opened in December 96 and counts some 190 employees.
